!Bj5(Vpw!2k~$(KGrHqUOKikEsnzBhq-(BLVSSh0+6g~~_12Super Mario is one of the bestselling video games of all time.  Therefore, Princess Peach has many loyal fans as well.  If your daughter loves Princess Peach, this would make a very fun and unique party theme for their next birthday celebration.   This party theme will not only incorporate Princess Peach, but also the princess theme that most little girls love.

You could start off your Princess Peach party planning by purchasing a personalized invitation on Ebay.  There are quite a few different designs to choose from including invites that also feature Mario.   The Princess Peach invitation displayed here is courtesy of Ebay seller Pixie Dust Decor and More.

For your party supplies, I would suggest purchasing a princess design.  There are two very cute (and pink!) designs to choose from including the Birthday Princess Deluxe Party Pack and the Fairytale Princess Deluxe Party Kit.  Once you decide on the partyware design you like, you can then select the items you would like for your party table and decorations.  Since Princess Peach is the guest of honor, you should also include her in your decorations and table setting.  There is a Princess Peach Cardboard Stand-Up that would make the perfect accent to your party room.   You can also have each of the party guests take a photo with Princess Peach.

Ebay seller Tony Photo Balloons offers a fun line of custom Princess Peach balloons including Princess Peach and Baby Peach as well as many other Super Mario characters such as Mario, Luigi, Zelda, Donkey Kong, and Yoshi.

Ebay seller Nany’s Banners sells a custom Princess Peach birthday banner that would make a great addition to your party decor.  The banner is available in various sizes and can even be personalized with your child’s name.

Another idea for your party table would be to purchase a Princess Peach figure or plush toy.  You can decorate a box or stand in the princess/Super Mario theme and then top with Princess Peach.  Place this in the center of the table or make two centerpieces if you have a large table.   You could also toss 1UP mushroom candy tins and tiaras around the party table.  At the end of the party, the guests can take one of each item home with them as part of their party favors.  To finish off the party decor, purchase a few Princess Peach posters to hang around the room.  There are so many ways to create a festive party table for this theme, so  have fun with it and get creative!

My Flour Garden

Carrie is the owner of My Flour Garden.   When Carrie was in her teens and early 20′s, her family was in the bakery, deli, Filipino-American Restaurant business.

She spent many summers working in the family business.    While she did not appreciate it at the time, that work experience ended up playing an important role in her future.   As an adult, after feeling stuck working one job after another as a secretary, she decided she wanted to start her own business.  After doing a bit of sole searching, she decided to start a cake decorating business since she has always had a love for baking and cake decorating.   Carrie has now been professionally decorating cakes for five years.

Carrie is a self-taught cake deocorator who is not afraid to challenge herself by reading instructional books on cake decorating and getting her hands on experience in the comfort of her own home.   There is lots of trial and error and figuring out what works, tastes good and looks great!   Looking back, though, she feels she should have gone to culinary school, but her head just wasn’t into it when she was younger.  She does, however, highly recommend those interested in cake decorating or in a career in baking to take some courses.

masterblack-377x370Carrie sells her cake creations via her online bakery, My Flour Garden.   She recently sold a 4-tiered wedding cake (alternating layers of dark chocolate filled with vanilla cream and sliced strawberries) and classic filled with chocolate bavarian cream filling.  The entire cake is to be frosted in a stable non-dairy whip since it’s for a Summer wedding.  She charged the bride and groom $899, an average per slice cost of $5.50, including delivery and set-up fees.

Her biggest tip for anyone just getting started in cake decorating is to make sure you really love it.  Your passion will really come through in your work.  It’s almost like sculpting a piece of artwork – except your medium would be cake.  Also, practice, practice, practice.   Don’t be afraid of trying new cake and frosting recipes, airbrushing and piping techniques.  Get familiar with your cakes – so you can really “sell” them to your friends, family and customers. If they see your enthusiasm, it will be sure to come through in your cakes and in the quality and presentation of your baked goods.  Most importantly, have fun with it!

Her biggest cake decorating mistake was not leveling her cakes.  If it’s not flat on top, your decorations will lean, look lopsided or simply slide off your cake.  Not good!  Another mistake was working with frosting that was too runny or soft.  Tip: Chill the frosting slightly to stabilize it and then frost and trim your cake.

Carrie loves working with classic buttercream the most.  It’s silky smooth and is the easiest frosting to smooth out and decorate with.  She has also recently started using fondant and loves it’s versatility and how it allows cakes to look as perfect as possible – especially wedding cakes and other special theme cakes.   However, fondant can be a bit challenging to use (i.e. tearing, drying, cracking, etc.), but it is a nice alternative once proficient in decorating cakes.

ava_three41Carrie has two all-time favorite cakes.  The first was a Baby Shower Bear Cake (pictured above).   It was her first attempt at carving a cake into any particular shape.  The delicious marble bear cake was filled with cookies and cream and was wearing his very own fondant onesie. The entire bear cake body was carved and frosted by hand (a bear head cake pan came in very handy for this project!).  His eyes and tongue were made of royal sugar.  From what she has heard, all the guests at the baby shower loved him and ate every bite!  He was alot of fun to make.

Her second favorite was a cake for her niece Ava’s 3rd Princess birthday.  It was a quarter sheet strawberry cake with strawberry slices and what else…strawberry frosting.  It was very pink and very pretty – just like the princess she is!

Disney Princess Theme Birthday Party

Monday, August 18th, 2008

princess partyLittle girls love dressing up and pretending to be a Princess.  That is one of the reasons why the  Disney Princesses are so popular.  Sparkling gowns, jewelry, tiaras, and a Prince waiting to wisk them away to a beautiful castle.   It is magical.   If your child loves princesses, then a Princess theme birthday party would be perfect for their next celebration.  Whether you are planning a Princess party or a Disney Princess Party, you will find lots of great ideas and supplies here to help you with your party planning.

Wow, there are so many princess theme partyware designs available on the market.  There are basic Princess party packs, Disney Princess, Cinderella, ArielTinker Bell (okay, not really a Princess, but I like to include her!) and Belle and Snow White.  Once your daughter decides on the partyware she would like, you can coordinate all of the remaining party items around this design.

Now, on to the birthday cake.  There are specialty cake pans available for Cinderella, Ariel, a Castle and a Crown.  These cake pans come with complete design instructions and are really fun to create.   Another very popular Princess cake idea is a Doll Cake.   These cakes do take some cake decorating know-how, though.  If you don’t think you can pull off baking one of these cakes, don’t worry.  There are many other easier cake ideas to chose from.  These include personalized edible cake toppers that you can add to your home baked cake or cupcakes as well as many castle decorations, cupcake decorating kits, and more.

Party activities are always an important part of any child’s birthday party.  Some party game ideas include Freeze Dance to Disney Princess music, Find Snow White’s Poison Apple, Pass Cinderella’s Slipper, The Missing Jewel, Princess Pea Guessing Game, Dress Up, Disney Princess Karaoke, Princess Hopscotch and Bingo.  For party crafts, pretty much anything with glitter and shiny rhinestones would be great such as making a necklace, decorating a jewelry box, making a crown or door hanger, etc.

For Princess party favors you can create fun bags with personalized candy wrappers and other supplies, chocolate lollipops, custom bubble totes, gourmet cookies, handmade fabric totes, and unique mini pinata favors.   There is also a nice assortment of wholesale party favors that you can purchase to help cut down on the costs.

Your daughter may want to dress up with a fancy gown and jewelry.  If she does, you can have the party guests come dressed up as well or provide some gowns for them if your daughter has extra ones around the house.  If you daughter does not want to get that dressed up for her birthday party, you could purchase a personalized Princess birthday shirt instead.  These shirts are so cute!  Many of them come with your child’s name and birthday age on them.

Hope I have provided you with some great ideas to help with your Princess party planning. Have fun!
