Cakes by Andrea

Andrea has been decorating cakes for a total of 12 years now.  She had taken her first Wilton cake decorating class when she was expecting her first child and instantly fell in love with it.  She finds cake decorating to be a very good stress release.   Her second child has some special needs, so it helped.   It also provided her with some extra income which is always nice.   So after her third child was born, she really got serious about cake decorating.   That was 7 years ago.   Andrea has also attended classes at her ICES (International Cake Exploration Societe) meetings. 

Andrea sells her cakes and her favorite cakes to make are children’s cakes.   First birthdays are always fun. She loves the Elmo and Abby Cadabby cake she recently did.  (pictured)   She created the figures out of Rice Krispie treats and fondant.  It was VERY over the top!

The best tip she would like to offer someone just getting into cake decorating is to buy an air brush and use it.  Don’t leave it in the box for years like she did.   Now, she uses this decorating tool daily.

Andrea prefers to ice most everything in buttercream and then use fondant  for accents.   Everyone loves buttercream and she can use the fondant to make the things she can’t make in buttercream. She  finds that most kids like buttercream.  She occasionally uses gumpaste as well.

If she were to pick her biggest cake decorating mistake, it would be using straws as dowel supports on a tiered cake. In the South in 100 degree heat after a rainstorm, humidity killed her AND the cake!

As with most of my interviews, choosing her favorite cake was difficult for Andrea.    However, she finally decided that her favorite was a cake she had done for a competition.   This cake took 3rd Place!   It was a topsy turvy cake with a fairy on top. (pictured)  It was very brightly colored.  Andrea feels that if she had a cake that described her the best,  it would be that cake.   Fun, bright and busy~ LOL!    The funny thing is every new cake is a new favorite.    She loves pushing herself to do more, to be better, to be over the top if she can.   Different is good.  People like the attention I give their cake.   They like the attention their cake gets when others see it.

Disney Princess Belle Birthday Party

Disney Princess Belle was my daughter’s favorite Princess when she was little.    While she did like all of the princesses, the story of Belle captured her imagination the most.  

Many little girls have Disney Princess theme birthday parties including all of the princesses while others choose just one princess as their party theme such as Snow White,  Cinderella, Ariel or
Tinker Bell.  (Tinker Bell is not actually  a Princess, but I like to include her!)  However, I don’t often see a Belle birthday party.  Why?  It is my belief that the reason for this is that many people do not realize that there are Princess Belle party supplies available for purchase on the market.  You can get partyware, favors, cake supplies, balloons and more with only Belle on it if that is your daughter’s favorite Princess.   I will include a large assortment of those party supplies below.  So, if your daughter’s would like Belle as their guest of honor at their next birthday party, you will be ready!

Start of the party planning with personalized Belle birthday invitations which can be found on Ebay.   There a many invitation styles to choose from and you can even add your daughter’s photo to some of these invites.  

Once you decide on your birthday party invitations, you can pick out your partyware.  Ebay seller  Sweet Treat Favors carries a full selection of Belle partyware including cups, plates, cupcake toppers, treat bags, napkins, candle, centerpiece, balloons, tablecover, plus many party favor items.  You can accent the party room with a large imprinted Belle latex balloons, personalized Belle birthday banner,  large Belle mylar balloon, and wall decorations.   Ebay offeres unique Belle custom centerpieces that would make wonderful addition to your Belle party decor.

The next step in your party planning is the birthday cake!   As I mentioned above, Ebay seller Sweet Treat Favors sells Belle cupcake picks.  So, if you decide to make birthday cupcakes for your daughter’s party, you will be all set.  Simply bake and ice the cupcakes and add on these fun picks.   If you prefer to bake a cake for your Belle party, there are many edible cake images  listed on Ebay that you could apply to your home baked birthday cake.  A petite cake topper would also make a great Belle cake decoration.  

If you would like to bake a castle cake for your daughter’s Belle birthday party, there are many castle cake pans available including a Enchanted Castle Pan, Nordi Ware Castle Bundt Pan, Romantic Castle Cake Pan, Fairytale Cottage Cake Pan and more.   There is also a fun Wilton Crown Cake Pan that would be perfect for a Belle party theme.

Ni Hao Kai Lan Birthday Party

Ni Hao, Kai Lan is a show for preschoolers which airs on Nickelodeon.  ‘Ni Hao’ means ‘Hello’ in Mandarin Chinese.  The show stars Kai Lan. Kai Lan is a young girl who shares her Mandarin Chinese culture during her playtime adventures with her animal friends.  During the show, Kai Lan speaks both English and Mandarin Chinese and she and her friends partake in a lot of singing and dancing.

If your child loves this show, a Kai Lan birthday would be a great party theme for their next celebration.  This post will share many unique birthday ideas that will make your Kai Lan  party a hit.

Awesome Handmade Birthday Pinatas

I came across these wonderful pinatas the other day and knew immediately that I had to share them with everyone!  They are beautifully handmade and the colors are incredibly vibrant.   They would make the perfect party activity and decoration for your child’s next birthday celebration.

The pinatas are approximately 21 inches high by 13 inches wide.   A pull string is included with each pinata.  The kids can use the pull string or hit the pinata the traditional way.

SpongeBob Birthday Party

Who doesn’t love SpongeBob?  He is funy, quirky, silly, and thoughtful…well,  just an all around nice guy!  If your child is a big fan , then a SpongeBob birthday would make a terrific party theme for their next celebration.  

There are currently two different SpongeBob partyware designs available on the market.  One is the SpongeBob Classic design which features SpongeBob in all of his wackiness.  Then, there is the SpongeBob Buddies design which features SpongeBob with his best bud, Patrick.  Both of these party packs come with tableware, plates, utensils, balloons, curling ribbon, streamers and invitations.  There are additional items you can add to your party pack that are sold ala carte.

With the latest High School Musical movie, “Senior Year” scheduled to be released in movie theaters on October 24, 2008, this birthday party theme is just getting more popular.  Many children are chosing this party theme for their next birthday celebration.
