Fun Party Favor Pens

Monday, September 14th, 2009

51Efe4GgrXL__SS500_I recently came across a fun new idea for your party favors!   They are novelty pens by Inkology.   These pens come in so many different designs you are sure to find the perfect pen for your theme party.    You could even hand out these pens as a standalone party favor by placing them in a cello treat bag with some candies and tying with curling ribbon.

One of the designs is a guitar pen (pictured).    Each set comes with 12 vividly colored Rocking Guitars that are beautifully handpainted with realistic guitar details.   These pens would be perfect favors for a Hannah Montana, Jonas Brothers, Taylor Swift, Rock Star or Guitar Hero theme birthday party.

Other party favor pens include Ice Cream Cone Pens, Flower Pots, Safari, Hairy Monkeys, Zoo Animals, Funky Dots, All-Sports and more.

Raymond Geddes also carries a nice selection of novelty party favor pens including Dr. Seuss, Frogs, Dogs, Horses, Cats, and more.

I always recommend trying to hand out birthday party favors that are practical and will actually be used by the kids.   You can’t get anymore practical than a pen!  Everyone uses pens. ;)

Guitar Birthday Party Craft

Thursday, April 9th, 2009

For my daughter’s Jonas Brother’s birthday party, the girls made a guitar for their party craft.    I purchased Cardboard Guitars.  The guitars were 78 1/4″ x  26 3/4″.    They were very large and perfect for decorating.   Before the party, I punched two holes in each guitar and attached a purple cord.   This way the girls could “play” their guitars during the party and have a way to hang them up in their rooms afterwards.

I set up the following on the table for the girls to decorate their guitars with:  adhesive jewels, Jonas Brothers stickers, Jonas Brothers clippings, markers, paint, glue sticks  and musical note stickers.

My daughter decided to make a fun Jonas Brothers photo collage on her guitar (see photo).   I think it came out really cool.  All of the guitars came out so good!    The girls spent quite a bit of time on their guitars and each one was so unique.    It was a very fun party craft.

This guitar craft would also work well for a Taylor Swift,  Hannah Montana or Guitar Hero theme birthday party.

Jell-O Jiggler Party Snacks

Wednesday, April 8th, 2009

img_9293Many times I make Jell-O Jigglers for snacks at my kid’s birthday parties.  Most kids love Jello and the jigglers are even more fun!  The key to successful jello jigglers is to find a theme-related cookie cutter for the shapes.  Most recently, I made guitar shaped jello jigglers for my daughter’s Jonas Brothers theme party (pictured above).  They were a huge hit!  The girls loved them.   I used grape jello to coordinate with the party colors which were purple, hot pink and black.   You should try to find a jello flavor that works with your party colors.  I served the purple jigglers on a hot pink plate.   Guitar jello jigglers would also work great for a Taylor Swift, Hannah Montana or Guitar Hero theme party.

Another party in which I served jello jigglers was my daughter’s Horse theme birthday.  I purchased a horse head cookie cutter for the shapes.  Other ideas would be to serve crown shaped jigglers for a Princess Party, Mickey jigglers for a Mickey’s Clubhouse party and pirate ship jigglers for a Pirate theme party.    There are so many cookie cutters availabe, that you are sure to find the perfect one for your party.

The recipe for jello jigglers is very simple and can also be found on the box of Jell-O.  Here it is:

1. STIR 2 1/2 cups boiling water (DO NOT add cold water) into 4 packages (4-serving size each) gelatin in bowl 3 minutes until dissolved.
2. REFRIGERATE 3 hours until firm.
3. DIP bottom of pan in warm water about 15 seconds.
4.  Using your cookie cutter, cut jello into shapes and carefully lift from pan.

Jello jigglers can be made the day before and stored in the refrigerator.

Guitar Hero Birthday Party

guitar hero party

The Guitar Hero video game is currently one of the hottest games out there right now.  If your child is a big fan of Guitar Hero, why not have a Guitar Hero theme party for their next birthday celebration?  It would definitely be a unique party theme.  The kids would love it!  The ideas I will discuss here would also work for a Rock Band theme birthday party.

You could start your party planning off with Guitar Hero personalized birthday invitations, envelope seals and address labels offered on Ebay.    There are many different invitation styles to chose from including ticket invitations (some with tear off stubs) and photo invitations.

For the partyware, there is a Party Like A Rock Star theme as well as a Rock Star theme that would be perfect. You can chose from a basic party pack, deluxe, or deluxe with favor boxes. There is also a personalized banner  available that would coordinate nicely with your guitar hero theme.

You then need to set the stage for the main event.  Make sure there is enough playing space for all of the guests you are inviting.   You may need to move some furniture around to create a semi-circle around the television.  This will be your Guitar Hero performance space.  For an added touch, you can add in a disco ball, laser light and/or strobe light.

There are large Rock Star Cardboard Cutouts that would make a great party decoration.   The cutouts are available in three fun designs:  Guitar Player, Bass Player and Lead Singer.

Time for cake!   Ebay sellers offer a large selection of Guitar Hero edible cake toppers  you could use for your party.  They are simple to apply to any sheet cake.  Another idea would be to bake a birthday cake using a specialty guitar cake pan.   The pan takes one standard cake mix and is made from quality anodized aluminum.    It comes with complete design instructions.  You could also purchase a guitar cookie cutter or guitar candy mold and create guitar cookies, jello jigglers or chocolate lollipops .

There is a Rock Star Designer Prints  kit (pictured) that would also be great for your Guitar Hero birthday party.  The kit comes with edible cake image strips that you can use to decorate a tiered birthday cake.

Ebay carries a nice selection of party favors for this theme such as  Guitar Hero candy wrapperschocolate lollipops, assorted guitar picks and guitar foil stickers.  Other party favor  ideas include an inflatable guitar, rock star rubber duckies and guitar bubble necklace.  I recently finished a post featuring very cool guitar shaped favor pens.  Check it out!

Although the Guitar Hero theme party activity generally consists of playing the Guitar Hero video game, you could add in a fun pinata activity as well by purchasing a guitar pinata.  There is also a  Make Your Own Guitar Craft that would be fun to do at your Guitar Hero party.   I recently used this Guitar Craft at my daughter’s Jonas Brothers party and they came out great!

Finish your Guitar Hero birthday party off by having the guest of honor wear one of these personalized Guitar Hero birthday shirts offered on Ebay.

Hope these ideas have helped you with your Guitar Hero party planning.  Please visit the following blog posts for more party ideas based on video games:
